Shooter Jennings’ life has a storyline fit for a movie, so it’s only fitting that his fifth studio album, The Other Life, will be accompanied by a film of the same name. The new music, set to hit stores March 12, includes some of the darkest and most introspective lyrics the singer-songwriter has ever tackled, with the movie visualizing the songs’ many themes. A standout track from the album is “Wild and Lonesome,” which features haunting harmonies from Patty Griffin. Listen to the song, exclusively on The Boot. Written by Shooter, Blake Judd and R.D. Hall, “The Other Life” movie features the 33-year-old singer playing himself, but in an eerie role. Haunted by a mysterious woman, Shooter leaves home on a supernatural journey that leads him to dangerous places, yet places of self-discovery. Watch a preview of the movie [in the link]. In addition to his tour in support of “The Other Life” (see dates below), Shooter is also co-producing another movie — this one about his late father, country icon Waylon Jennings. The script will follow the “Lonesome, On’ry and Mean” singer at the height of his country music career, when he broke down musical barriers to pioneer the Outlaw country movement. A release date is forthcoming.
